Strutton examines impacts of rogue ocean fertilisation experiment

Centre of Excellence Chief Investigator Dr Peter Strutton has written a fascinating piece in The Conversation about a recent rogue ocean iron fertilisation experiment of British Columbia.

The story discusses the international reaction that an experiment on such a scale violated international protocols and had potentially dangerous impacts on the marine ecosystem.

The article contains an excellent explanation of how such experiments work.

Interestingly, when Dr Strutton looked at the evidence, he found it was quite possible that the experiment had very little effect, with an algal bloom already developing in the area where it was conducted.
