Thesis Title

The influence of rotation on surface buoyancy forced convection

Cat uses laboratory apparatus and direct numerical simulations to investigate the underlying physics present in dynamical fluid flows, and how these results can apply to ocean circulation. Her areas of interest include thermal convection, rotating flows, and turbulent mixing. Cat's current research considers surface buoyancy forced overturning in different geometries such as a rectangular box (ocean basin) and an annulus (Southern Ocean).
