Thesis Title

Reconstructing the Indo-Australian Monsoon over the last glacial-interglacial cycle using speleothems and palaeoclimate modeling

Claire is using stalagmites from a cave in Sulawesi, Indonesia, to produce a record of monsoon rainfall from this region for the last 40,000 years.

She is complementing this study through the use of palaeoclimate models to understand the changes in monsoon rainfall observed in her record. Claire is working with the CSIRO Mk3L model as well as the GISS ModelE to try to simulate some of the abrupt climate events seen within the monsoon during the last deglaciation, from around 18,000 years ago.
