Daniel started his PhD at the University of Melbourne in February 2013. He previously obtained his undergraduate degree in environmental engineering and a MSc. in water resources, both at the National Polytechnic School of Ecuador. He has worked for the Ministry of Environment of Ecuador, as an independent environmental consultant, as well as Lecturer of the Catholic University of Ecuador.

His thesis “Forecasting Southern Hemisphere Seasonal Bushfire Potential” proposes the development of a seasonal bushfire index for one of the most bushfire prone regions in the world: Victoria, Australia. His project also explores a Southern Hemisphere perspective to seasonal bushfire danger, investigating a case study from Ecuador. Finally, Daniel will examine the seasonal bushfire potential in the 21st century of these two regions using data from models of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5).
