  • Postdoc, Advanced Study Program, National Center for Atmospheric Research, Boulder, USA (1998-2000)

Matthew’s research takes in intraseasonal to interannual variability of the atmosphere/ocean climate system and its role in weather and climate prediction. He specialises in equatorial waves, the Madden-Julian oscillation, the Australian monsoon, and mechanisms of rainfall variability. Matthew is also deeply involved in techniques development for the analysis of atmospheric and oceanic data, especially spectral analysis and methods for prediction. Matthew is currently the co-chair of the WCRP-WWRP/THORPEX Madden Julian Oscillation Task Force, and just finished a three-year term as editor for the journal Monthly Weather Review.
