Thesis Title

Synoptic and Instability Environments of Australian Elevated Thunderstorms

Biography

Ross is interested a class of thunderstorm (called Elevated Thunderstorms), which can exist above surface stable airmasses. It is not known which Australian synoptic and thermodynamic environments these storms initiate in, hence posing a significant forecasting and nowcasting challenge. Ross will create the first Australian elevated thunderstorm climatology, and identify which types of instability are present.

Ross has worked for many years as a weather forecaster for the Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology, as well as national training manager for RADAR and Rainfields, and national manger for the Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre.
