Thesis Title

Meridional Overturning Circulation variability during the last glacial period and its signature in oxygen isotope records

Biography

Witek started his PhD in 2012. His research focuses on the last glacial period. He uses the UVic Earth System Climate Model to simulate changes in global ocean circulation triggered by iceberg discharge events. He compares the simulated centennial-to-millennial scale climate variability with paleoproxy records. In this way, he aims to improve the understanding of Heinrich events and Dansgaard-Oeschger cycles.

Before joining UNSW, Witek received a BSc degree in Geosciences and Astrophysics from Jacobs University Bremen and a MSc degree in Oceanography from the University of Maine. He also spent two years as a guest student at Dalhousie University.
