Thesis Title

Quantifying key physical processes responsible for ocean warming under Antarctic ice shelves

Biography

Wilma started her PhD in October 2015 at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies, University of Tasmania, and the Antarctic Gateway Partnership. Her research interest is polar oceanography and for her PhD thesis she investigates physical processes controlling ocean heat transport onto the Antarctic continental shelf and its effects on basal melting of the ice shelves. To do so, she uses the Regional Ocean Modelling System (ROMS) to perform eddy-resolving process-oriented experiments. Wilma has a background in oceanography and climate physics and did both her Bachelor and Master degree at the University of Kiel, Germany, in collaboration with the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel.
