Thank you to everyone who joined us recently in Canberra for the Centre’s annual workshop. The workshop is definitely one of the main highlights of the year as it’s our one opportunity to come together as a whole centre, both to share recent and emerging research advances and to build community and connections. Special thanks must go to Mike Roderick for chairing the workshop organising committee this year and to the other members of the committee: Neil Holbrook, Andrew King, Pearse Buchanan and of course Elaine Fernandes who ensured everything ran like clockwork. Thank you to all our speakers and poster presenters and congratulations to this year’s winners of Centre prizes. We always welcome feedback on how to continuously improve our workshops. If you missed the opportunity to complete the post-workshop survey, you’re always welcome to get in touch with me directly with feedback and suggestions.

During the workshop you will have seen quite a number of new faces, among them, the new members of the Centre admin team. Each node now has a dedicated position to help coordinate centre activities and local logistics. Contact email addresses are below. Stand by also for some exciting new initiatives for communicating with the admin team, providing suggestions and finding answers to FAQs.

As we approach the end of the year and work is ramping up on the production of two annual reports, these people will be busy finalising lists of all sorts of activities to include in those reports. Most of the impressive statistics that Christian shared of ARCCSS accomplishments at the workshop are available to us as a Centre because of your cooperation in reporting them in the first place.

Finally, as part of the development process for the new website of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes (CLEX), we have engaged a designer who also has expertise in brand building and recognition. He recommended we develop a new logo for the Centre and adopt a common approach to the visual identity of the centre across the website and other materials. CLEX staff and students can obtain logo files from node admin staff.

As this is the last newsletter for 2017, I wish everyone a safe and relaxing break over the summer holidays and look forward to continued excellence in 2018.
