Biography

Guy is an ARC Future Fellow in Autonomous platforms and Biotagging at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies at the University of Tasmania, with a focus on exploring new technologies for observing Antarctic ocean/sea-ice interactions. His research background is in the formation and export of dense shelf waters from key East Antarctic coastal polynya regions that produce Antarctic Bottom Water. Since 2010, he has been involved in sea-ice projects involving autonomous under water vehicles (AUV) and most recently been developing unmanned aerial systems (UAS) to work in concert with the AUVs to observe sea ice from above and below. He has participated in 10 international polar research expeditions (2 in the Arctic) and spent over 18 months at sea on icebreakers.
