Joan is a researcher from Barcelona, Spain. After obtaining a BSc in Physics there, he moved to Paris where he completed an MSc in Oceanography and, in January 2015, a PhD in Marine Biogeochemistry. His PhD focused on the present and future mechanisms controlling the seasonal variability of primary production in the Southern Ocean. In December 2015, he started a post doctoral role in IMAS with Peter Strutton to work on the impact of Climate Change over Southern Ocean biogeochemistry. In particular, he is interested in the influence of changes in large-scale circulation and eddy activity on primary production and nutrient subduction in the Southern Ocean. These questions will be approached mainly using high-resolution ocean models and observational data from the EDDIES ocean survey collected in March-April 2016.
