Biography

Randall is a vegetation and remote sensing scientist, primarily interested in understanding the temporal dynamics in the interactions between vegetation, climate and water, at landscape to global scales.  His research seeks to address issues such as

  • What determines vegetation water use?
  • How does CO2 fertilisation alter vegetation structure and function?
  • How can the modelling of landscape carbon balances be simplified?
  • How has vegetation cover changed over the past decades?
  • What drives the dynamics in evaporative demand?
  • How can growth limitation and optimality frameworks be used to better understand vegetation dynamics?

Randall undertook his PhD jointly with the ANU and CSIRO Land and Water and graduated in 2010.  Since 2007 Randall has been with the Environmental Earth Observation Group within CSIRO Land and Water.  He has a background in vegetation ecology and mapping.
